TEST PILOT SPOTLIGHT: KAIWI BERRY

GIVE US A BRIEF RUNDOWN OF WHO YOU ARE, WHERE YOU’RE FROM AND WHAT YOU’RE PASSIONATE ABOUT.
I'm Kaiwi Berry, born and raised on the North Shore of Oahu. I’ve been on boats since I was an infant. My father was a commercial fisherman, my grandpa had a boat, and to this day, my life revolves around the ocean. I grew up surfing, fishing, diving – whatever the conditions of the day call for is what I do. My focus is and has always been that total relationship with the ocean. Beyond that, my goal is to get to places with the least amount of people, and to raise my family to be good people with good morals, who participate in a lot of ocean activity.

WHAT’S THE NEXT CHALLENGE FOR YOU?
Thankfully for me, surfing big waves has never been a career obligation. I do it because I just enjoy it. I’m not out there mad that I didn’t get the set of the day – I’m just out there. So I’ll continue to surf the major swells here, and I’ll stay healthy enough to do so. I’m transitioning into a new phase and the ultimate adventure: being a dad. I’ve done some cool paddling adventures & been fortunate be a part of some pretty large surf – the next challenge something more like exploring new tide pools with my wife & kids!

WHAT PIECE OF GEAR DO YOU TEST / USE THE MOST?
I used the Hooded Rashguard. I don’t have any hair so I like to stay covered. I’ve been building all these structures on our farm, and while I’m out in the sun so I’m wearing the Hooded Utility UPF. And the boardshorts are great.
